In our latest podcast, Sharesify’s Steven Frazer and Ian Conway talk about how markets are making record highs. The FTSE 100, S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite and MSCI World Index are all on a 2026 rampage. Yet, as Ian explains, there are puzzling elements to these highs with the macro and geopolitics not seemingly tallying with investor hubris.
The record gold price may be telling its own story as the precious metal safe-haven blasts through $5,300 for the first time. This makes it a 23% gold-rush rally already in 2026. And silver is up 50% this year alone, in another sign of how bifurcated markets have become.
Steven and Ian then move on to crucial earnings incoming this evening, when $10 trillion+ of big tech posts results. This starts with Microsoft (MSFT), Meta Platforms (META) and Tesla (TSLA) after the Wall Street close this evening (about 9.30pm UK time).
Then there’s iPhone giant Apple (AAPL) to watch for after-hours tomorrow. As the guys point out, expectations are high not just for earnings but for the outlook as well.
We have already had a raft of largely positive earnings reports this quarter, and plenty of solid numbers in the UK and Europe too. However, companies which have disappointed have been well and truly put through the wringer by the markets.
